Travel Resources

Tools and utilities designed specifically for New York City travelers to save time and money.

This page curates our most useful planning resources, airport advice, and booking guides for NYC travelers.

Booking windows by distance

Booking advice scales with how far you are flying, which is why a single "book six weeks out" rule fails at both ends. These are the windows we use across the route pages, with real destinations from New York in each band.

HaulDistanceBookExamples from NYC
Shuttle hopunder 400 mi2-4 weeks aheadBoston, Washington DC, Philadelphia
Short haul400-1,000 mi3-6 weeks aheadChicago, Orlando, Atlanta
Medium haul1,000-1,800 mi5-8 weeks aheadMiami, Dallas, Denver
Transcontinental1,800-3,000 mi8-12 weeks aheadLos Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle
Long haul3,000-5,500 mi3-5 months aheadHonolulu, Anchorage, London
Ultra long haul5,500 mi+4-7 months aheadTokyo, Dubai, Delhi

LaGuardia cannot serve routes beyond 1,500 miles under its perimeter rule, so anything from the transcontinental band up leaves from JFK or Newark.
